Scholarship Description                     

France’s Ministry of higher education, research, and innovation (MESRI) and Ministry of Europe and foreign affairs (MEAE) collaborating with ‘Campus France’ have launched a program of aid for international postdoctoral researchers that desire to conduct more research in France on any topic related to the energy transition, climate change and sustainability, earth systems, or societal challenges of environmental issues.

The Make Our Planet Great Again initiative launched by Emmanuel Macron, President of France, has been welcomed with worldwide enthusiasm, provoking expressions of interest from quite a large number of greatly qualified students and researchers.

Research themes: Four (4) broad research themes are prioritized:

  • Earth systems,
  • Climate change and sustainability,
  • Energy transition,
  • Societal challenges of environmental issues.

This scholarship is open to students from Angola, Bolivia, Palestinian Territories, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Cameroon, Colombia, Cuba, Mali, Djibouti, Dominican Republic, Burundi, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Gabon, Yemen, Ghana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Guyana, Haiti, Afghanistan, Iraq, Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire), Benin, Jordan, Togo, Lebanon, Liberia, Vietnam, Libya, Madagascar, Mauritania, Uganda, Morocco, Mozambique, Tunisia, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Central African Republic, Paraguay, Burkina Faso, Comoros Islands, Peru, Rwanda, Senegal, Saint-Lucia, South Africa, Kenya, Sudan, Tanzania, Zimbabwe.

Value of Award: LearningInstitutions hosting the beneficiaries/laureates will be funded to €50,000 for a duration of twelve (12) months, per chosen post-doctoral researchers.

Duration of Award: six to eighteen (6-18) months.

Requirements

Applicants must:

  • possess a doctoral degree for less than five years on the date of submission of the application
  • be exclusively of the nationality of one of the eligible nations (listed above)
  • Not have domiciled in France after September 1st, 2019.
    The postdoctoral agreement must take effect from January 2021 (to be later specified).

Selection Process: Consistent with the objectives and criteria of this call for proposals, the selection process will unfold in two (2) phases. In the first phase, scientific experts in the covered fields will assess the applications submitted and gotten. In the second phase, an international jury will seat and reach the final selection of applicants to receive aid.

How to Apply

International researchers that have a doctoral degree (for less than five (5) years) are encouraged to respond to this call for proposals. Applicants must include with their application a letter from a French host institution indicating their agreement to host their research if the applicant’s proposal is approved by the program. This letter has to detail the resources at disposal to carry out the research project. A possibility of co-funding may also be considered.

  1. Curriculum Vitae which should include the list of your publications
  2. PhD Diploma (or certificate of PhD diploma)
  3. Curriculum Vitae of your postdoctoral supervisor
  4. The letter of commitment of the French host institution for hosting your post-doctorate indicating the resources to be at your disposal to carry out the research project (the host institution gets a funding of €50,000 for twelve (12) months)
  5. Letters of recommendation.
  6. Passport or proof of ID
