The following financial aid opportunities are available to international students seeking admission for the academic session at Michigan State University. Due to high demand and a large pool of applicants, not everyone who applies for this scholarship will receive one. All scholarship award amounts are given in US dollars at Michigan State University.

Automatic consideration at Michigan State University
International Tuition Assistance
Awarded to an exceptionally limited number of international students who apply to be first-year students at U.S. institutions. It takes into account both academic achievement and extracurricular participation, as well as essays and a student’s home country. Average award amounts for a full academic year of study are between $15,000 and $25,000. Those who submit their applications to Michigan State University by December 1 will be given early consideration. No U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or students transferring from another school are eligible for this scholarship.
Awarding a #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship
International undergraduate students who demonstrate dedication to spreading the #YouAreWelcomeHere message through cross-cultural understanding are eligible to apply for this grant. It is a renewable eight-semester grant worth $25,000 per year to be used toward educational expenses. Submission of the #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship Application is necessary. The International Tuition Grant cannot be combined with this award.
Excellence in Academics Grant
Amount: $5,000 per year for eight semesters; recipients must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States, Canada, or Mexico to be eligible.
Honors College Excellence Scholarship
Given to an elite group of students who have been invited to the Honors College but are not Michigan residents or citizens. There are a total of $13,000 available each year through the Excellence Scholarship, spread out over the course of eight semesters.
Academic Position of Assistant Professor
Invited students from around the world and those who have completed high school at home are eligible for this scholarship. This offer is also open to domestic students, but they must have a grade point average that places them in the top five percent of MSU applicants from their high school to be considered. Professorial assistantships pay approximately $3,500 per year for 8-10 hours per week of work on faculty-mentored research or scholarly activity. Financial Support for International Ambassadors
Scholarships of $7,000 per year for eight semesters will be given to a select group of outstanding students.
Scholarships of the Red Cedar
Offers $1,250 annually, renewable for eight semesters, to children and grandchildren of Michigan State University alums.
Presidential Study Abroad Scholarship
Scholarships of $3,000 or $5,000 are available for students participating in an MSU-sponsored or co-sponsored study abroad program located outside the United States. Allotted funds must be used no later than the student’s eighth semester as an undergraduate at MSU, or prior to the student’s completion of their undergraduate degree.
