Benefits: £120,000 which will include salary, studentship allowance, fees and research costs.

Duration: This fellowship normally offer up to 30 months’ assistance. A duration of twelve (12) months should be committed normally to undertaking a taught Master’s course at a recognized center of excellence, combined with up to eighteen (18) months to undertake a research project.

Requirements

Interested applicantshould apply if you:

  • Are a from a low or middle income nation.
  • Have a clinical or non-clinical undergraduate degree in a subject that is related to tropical medicine or public health.
  • Are at an early stage in your career with low research experience (but you must have a shown aptitude for, or interest in, research).
  • Have sponsorship from an eligible host organization in a low or middle income nation.
  • Have a proposal for research that is within our tropical medicine and public health remit.

ApplicantCANNOT apply if they are:

  • Planning to be based in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland or any other high income nation (although your taught course can be anywhere in the world).
  • A researcher in India (Check instead for the Wellcome Trust/Department of Biotechnology India Alliance).
  • Currently applying for another Wellcome Trust fellowship program.

Selection Criteria: 

  • the importance and quality of your research question(s)
  • the feasibility of your approach to solving these problems
  • the suitability of your choice of research environments
  • The suitability of the taught Master’s course you select – it should take place at a recognized center of excellence and provide you with training that will complement your research project.
