Scholarship Description
The Research Training Program (RTP) scholarships are funded by the Australian Government, while the Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarships (DUPRS) are funded by Deakin University. Value of Award:
- A stipend of $28,092 (2020 rate) per annum tax exempt
- A relocation allowance ranging from $500 to $1,500 (for single to family) will be awarded to students who are moving from another state or internationally in order to study at the University.
- For overseas students only: Single International Student Health Cover policy for the period of the student visa.
Duration of Award:
Doctoral Degree Length: three (3) years for stipend and for (4) years for the tuition fees offset.
Research Master Degree Length: two (2) years for stipend and two (2) years for the tuition fees offset
Requirements
- To be eligible for an Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend, RTP Fees Offset, RTP Allowance or Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarships (DUPRS), a student must be a domestic or overseas student registered in an HDR course of study at the University
- To be eligible for an Research Training Program (RTP) Fees Offset a candidate must not be a recipient of an equivalent award or scholarship from the Commonwealth intended to offset HDR fees
- To be eligible for a Research Training Program (RTP) or Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarships (DUPRS) Stipend, a student must not be a recipient of income from another source to aid that student’s general living expenses while taking their course of study if that said income is greater than 75% of that student’s RTP or DUPRS Stipend rate. Income that is not related to the student’s course of study or income gotten for the student’s course of study but that is not intended for the purposes of assisting general living expenses is not to be taken into consideration.

Selection Process
- Research Training Program (RTP) and Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarships (DUPRS) Stipends will be granted to students following a competitive process detailed in the ranking guidelines as below.
- Students receiving a Research Training Program (RTP) or Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarships (DUPRS) Stipend will be registered as on-campus full time students.
- Candidates for a Research Training Program (RTP) or Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarships (DUPRS) Stipend should have concluded minimum of four (4) years of tertiary education and obtained a first class Honors degree or its equivalent level of academic accomplishment as approved by Deakin University, and fulfil all other minimum entry criteria according to the Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) Admission, Selection and Enrolment Procedure. - Present students can apply for a Research Training Program (RTP) or Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarships (DUPRS) Stipend and will be evaluated by the Faculty/Institute. Present students cannot apply after they have finished more than three (3) years of their doctoral course or two (2) years of their master’s course (or its part-time equivalent).
